Delivering Joy, One Home at a Time
Each December, MJHS Health System brings a beloved holiday tradition directly to the homes of children receiving pediatric hospice care.
As a not-for-profit health system , we understand that families caring for a seriously ill child may not be able to participate in traditional holiday celebrations. Our Pediatric Holiday Gift Distribution aims to make this easier by bringing the celebration to them.
Dressed in festive costumes—including elves, reindeer and other holiday favorites—members of our team crisscross the boroughs, traveling from Brooklyn to the Bronx and beyond to visit young patients, their siblings and their families.
Each visit is filled with live music, gifts, laughter and joyful moments. Our team, which includes nurses, social workers and a music therapist, brings the holiday celebration directly to each child’s bedside.
These special visits give families an opportunity to:
- Create happy holiday memories together
- Enjoy a welcome break from the daily realities of caregiving
- Experience the comfort and connection of live music
- Celebrate siblings and ensure they feel included
- Receive a compassionate clinical check-in from members of the child’s care team
During each visit, children and family members may listen, hum, sing or even dance along as an MJHS music therapist performs their favorite holiday songs live in their home.
