YOUR GIFT IN ACTION

A Day at the Museum

On one of the hottest days of the summer, eight residents of our Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care each held one of the hottest tickets in town—a VIP experience at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Their special day included a docent guided tour, drawing activity and stimulating conversations about muses, artists and painting techniques. To ensure maximum comfort and safety, residents traveled in a specially-equipped bus with enough space for all of the wheelchairs, plus seating for members of our Menorah Center therapeutic recreation team, nursing aides and volunteers.

As our residents learned about famous works of art, other museum goers stopped to marvel at our group. A young man in a wheelchair said it was literally the first time he’d ever seen a group of nursing home residents at any museum in any part of the world, much less The Met. He thanked us for treating our residents with dignity, respecting their interests, and honoring their desire to remain intellectually and creatively stimulated.

It’s philanthropic support from donors like you that help Menorah Center continue to offer incredibly dynamic field trips, art therapy and other creative programs for residents at all ability and cognitive levels—including those with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Extraordinary Care Every Step of The Way

Though Anthony was nearly two decades older than his little sister, Gianna, the two of them were inseparable from the start. Anthony was his sister’s primary caregiver, and when Gianna was diagnosed with cancer at 10 years old, they struggled with navigating her treatments. Read how gifts to MJHS Foundation help support her extraordinary care.

Spreading Holiday Cheer to our Littlest of Patients

What started as a small toy collection ten years ago has now grown into a cherished annual tradition. Thanks to the generosity of our MJHS Young Leadership Council members and donors, almost 200 toys, games, and art supplies were purchased for our kids last year!

“Every single day I thank MJHS doctors, nurses, social workers, as well as the chaplain and music therapist for their compassion, care and being our life saver.”
