COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund!
Per New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s orders, non-essential staff is telecommuting from home. Therefore, we urge you to make your gift online today. However, if you are unable to donate online, please allow for a delay in check deposits and acknowledgements. You can still reach us at [email protected] or (212) 356-5300.
Each day, the selfless staff at MJHS Health System remains on the frontlines, committed to caring for our extremely vulnerable nursing home residents as well as our hospice and home care patients, many of whom have been discharged from the hospital with – or weakened by – COVID-19. PPE is essential to ensuring the safety of our patients and residents as well as our staff, and ultimately their families.
Due to significantly increased demand, and pricing that is often running multiples of what we typically pay, MJHS has already spent over $6,000,000 on PPE to protect our staff and patients since the beginning of the pandemic. As a not-for-profit health system, we simply cannot afford to absorb these costs. You can help us today, by giving a gift to support our COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.
Here’s How Your Gift Can Help:
- $500 – protect 20 frontline staff with full PPE for one day
- $250 – provide 25 critical N95 Masks
- $100 – supply 10 protective disposable gowns
- $50 – purchase 2 cases of disposable gloves
- $10 – provide 2 meals for our selfless clinicians

One final ask…
Help say Thank You to our essential healthcare workers on the frontlines.
Please take a moment to post a note, poem, drawing, or even a song of encouragement to our clinicians on any of the MJHS social media pages. You can find us at @mjhs01. Be sure to use the hashtag #cheeronMJHS, too. If you aren’t on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, feel free to upload a message here. Your donation and words of support will help us address medical needs, uplift dedicated staff, and stem our significant financial losses.
Please take good care of yourself and everyone you love. We look forward to celebrating the end of this global pandemic with you.

Charitable Giving Incentives for Donors to 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organizations-CARES Act (in response to Covid 19)
In addition to facilitating direct financial relief to affected nonprofit organizations, the CARES Act also creates charitable giving incentives for donors to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Section 2204 of the CARES Act includes a new above-the-line deduction (universal or non-itemized deduction that applies to all taxpayers) for total charitable contributions of up to $300. The incentive applies to contributions made in 2020 and would be claimed on tax forms next year.
Section 2205 of the CARES Act lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, raising it from 60 percent of adjusted gross income to 100 percent. For corporations, the legislation raises the annual limit from 10 percent to 25 percent. Food donations from corporations would be available to 25 percent, up from the current 15 percent cap.*
